Here’s what people across Western North Carolina are saying about being Yes On Child Care:

“I am Yes on Childcare, because it allowed me the ability to gain the independence and employment I needed to flee a domestic violence situation. Without child care, I never would have been able to get to the safer situation I am in today.”

-Parent

“I am Yes on Child Care because without access to child care, my nine-year recovery from substance use, college education, and career as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor would not have been possible.”

-K.E.

“Childcare is the back bone of the community’s economy. Without childcare, parents cannot work and in turn employers cannot function at full capacity.”

-Bridgett Curtis, Advocate

“I am Yes on Child Care because as a long time educator and now a parent, I know that all kids deserve quality education that is not tied to their family’s income level. Without quality childcare, my own parents would not have been able to achieve professional success and access robust education for myself and my brother. I want to know that my child AND their peers across WNC are safe, supported, nourished, and thriving in school because our state adequately funds public education for all.”

– Hannah Arwe, Parent

“Our country has always believed people should have the right to rise as far as their talents and ambition will take them. That opportunity is denied to parents who cannot find safe, reliable, and economical child care. Many people today are choosing not to have children so they can pursue their careers. We will be a richer and more equal nation if we stop making people choose between having children and having a fulfilling career. Other nations have figured out how to do this, it’s time that we pioneer a high quality child care system in North Carolina.”

-Tom Fehsenfeld, Grandparent

“After Helene’s destruction and disruption in WNC, the ongoing disintegration of the safety net tends to make me cynical and sad about the futures of so many in distress here on our side of the state. Please (begging prayerfully) do the right thing by the little ones!”

-John Jones, Advocate
